Winning blackjack requires you to acquire points as close to 21 as possible, but not over, and also beat the
dealer's total.
- Numbered cards - face value
- Face cards (Kings, Queens and Jacks) - 10
- Aces - 1 or 11, whatever benefits you more
How to play blackjack:
You need to place your bet first. You then get two cards and the dealer gets one. The dealer receives a
second face-down card. You are then asked if you want to get a hit, receive another card, or pass to the
dealer.
When you choose to take a hit, the dealer deals you another card and then asks if you want to hit again or stand.
When the dealer's face up card is higher than seven, you've got good odds to hit if your total is between 12
and 16. It's a wise decision to stand when you cards total 17 or more. If your cards are over 21 points,
you lost the game. In a tie, no one wins or loses.
If the dealer busts when your cards are less than or equal to 21, you win. If a scenario where neither you
nor the dealer's total is over 21 occurs, the higher hand wins. Even money is won if you better the dealer.
Splitting pairs
You can split your hand if your first two cards are of the same points, like a pair of nines.
You must place a second bet that's equal to your first bet if you choose to split your hand. You can then
play them as separate hands.
Each hand will get only one more card when Aces are split, and getting 21 won't be considered as blackjack.
Doubling down
Whenever you're doubling down, you double your original bet. This only happens after getting your first two
cards. If you choose this method, you're dealt only one more card from the dealer and he'll draw the cards
he needs to finish his own hand.
Blackjack
When the first two cards dealt to you or the dealer are an Ace and a card worth 10, you achieve blackjack.
Payoffs for blackjack are three to two.
Insurance
Some casinos will ask if you want insurance when the dealer's face-up card is an Ace. Insurance will cost
half of your original bet. The dealer getting blackjack when you've taken an insurance bet will pay two to
one, equaling what you lost on the original bet.
